Project Overview
Uniswap enables decentralized trading of ERC-20 tokens through automated market makers (AMMs). The UNI token powers the protocol’s governance system.
It removes the need for centralized intermediaries in crypto trading. UNI allows users to collectively steer protocol development and funding.

Utility and Value Proposition

Utility of the token: UNI is a governance token used for voting and proposal creation. It can also be delegated to active voters.

Access to exclusive features: Currently, UNI does not unlock premium features. Its main function is participation in protocol governance.

How it generates value: There’s no direct yield yet, but future governance could enable fee-sharing. Speculation on its governance power and future rewards drives demand.

Incentives for long-term holding: Holders benefit from governance influence and potential protocol revenue sharing. There’s also long-term value tied to Uniswap’s growth and fee switch activation.

Governance and Community

Used for governance? Yes, UNI holders vote on proposals affecting the protocol’s evolution. Delegation is available for passive holders.

How decentralized is it? Governance is technically open but token distribution is still concentrated among early investors and the foundation. True decentralization is a work in progress.

Community engagement: The community is active on governance forums, Discord, and Twitter. Engagement is strong, though actual influence is limited by token concentration.

Plan for decentralization: There is a stated intent to decentralize over time. Changes mostly come from community-driven governance proposals.

Liquidity and Market Performance

How liquid is the token? UNI is highly liquid and listed on all major centralized and decentralized exchanges. Top trading pairs include UNI/ETH and UNI/USDC.

Volume, price history, volatility: It has high trading volume and experienced significant volatility (ATH ~$44 in 2021). The price now fluctuates with broader market trends and governance news.

Liquidity pool depth: Uniswap V2 and V3 offer deep liquidity pools for UNI on Ethereum and L2s. Concentrated liquidity further improves trading efficiency.

Market cap reasonable? UNI’s market cap ranges from $4B–$6B, reflecting its dominant role in DeFi. Its utility and future monetization potential justify current valuations.
